PFMC welcomed: our Guest Speaker, NFMC Past President (1999-2003) Dr. Ouida Keck

Ouida Keck received the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Ouachita Baptist University where she graduated Magna cum laude.  She also holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.  Her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy was earned at the University of Iowa.  Dr. Keck’s career has included both in state and out of state performances including performances on AETN and as a soloist with the South Arkansas Symphony.  She is active as a clinician, adjudicator, soloist and collaborator.  Her professional career consists of operating her own independent piano studio for twelve years and she served on the Ouachita Baptist University faculty in Arkadelphia, Arkansas for 30 years where she was Coordinator of Keyboard Activities, held the Addie Mae Maddox Professorial Chair, and taught piano, music appreciation, and piano pedagogy.  Dr. Keck has served as state president for the Arkansas State Music Teachers’ Association, as Vice President of the National Music Council in New York, and served as President of the National Federation of Music Clubs from 1999-2003.  After leaving office an endowed scholarship for Professional Development for the Independent Piano Teacher was established in her honor.  Dr. Keck is currently serving NFMC as Chair of the Fund for the Advancement of Musical Arts (FAMA Grants).  She also serves on the NFMC Bylaws and Finance Committees. The Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs named Dr. Keck Musician of the Year in 1994 and in 1997 she was honored as the Outstanding College Teacher of the year by the Arkansas State Music Teachers’ Association and was named a MTNA Foundation Fellow in 2016.  Ouida was also honored by being presented a Servant Leadership Award, an award which now benefits Opera in the Ozarks.   Dr. Keck retired as Professor Emerita from Ouachita.  She lives in Little Rock, AR and currently serves as Past President of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild, and is on the Advisory Board of the ASO.   A former PEO Chapter President, her hobbies include cooking, entertaining, and traveling.   She is married to NFMC Archives Chair and Wendell Irish Viola Award Chair, Dr. George Keck.
