The PFMC East Piano Competition took place on April 15, 2023 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown, PA. It was well attended with nineteen participants in 9 categories, set by five different teachers from Philadelphia North and Philadelphia Central Clubs.
Once the students attended their local Junior Federated Festivals in March and received a Superior, they were eligible to enter the Regional Competition for awards and prize money. They performed the Required Festival Composition for the three judges: Dr. Martha Schrempel, Music Professor at Moravian Academy; Jon Beitler, pianist, composer & Piano teacher; and Karen El-Chaar, WDIY Radio Host and Professor and Flautist at Cedar Crest College.
The East winners will have the opportunity to face-off with the winners of PFMC West and Central Regions at Pine Street UMC in Williamsport, PA on April 29, 2023, for
Piano Solo Level Overall Winner, prizes, and other awards. Congratulations to all!

MD I: Jonathan Win – Mississippi River Rag by J. East-Wells, Ziegler, teacher
MD II: Albert Wen – Stars in the Sky by G. Austin, Ziegler, teacher
MD III: Ethan Nguyan – Moonlight Fantasy by M. Bober, Kuntz, teacher
Ethan was selected as Overall Winner for the PFMC East Competition by the judges
Diff I: Oscar Lui – Sleigh bells in the Snow by W. Gillock, Ziegler, teacher
Diff II: Minori Yamashita – Alla Tarentella Op. 39 no. 2 by E. MacDowell, Sydlik, teacher
MA I: Emma Schilling – Prelude 1 by M. Valenti, Ziegler, teacher
The East Region will be sending a Senior Concerto competitor, Liam Greenan, from the Scott Besser Piano Studio, who will perform the Concerto in D Minor, Mvt. 1, by J.S. Bach
